Don't you hate it when ... [part 2]

by Sandy Jost, PhD14. January 2014 12:46

... Another pet peeve of mine is when ...

Illness of any kind is regarded as a FAILURE!

The body is always EXPRESSING.

For that matter, so is the mind and spirit. But the body seems to grab our attention with WHAT it's expressing only when it's giving us some kind of "painful experience!" This is the only kind of expression that we notice! Let's face it, we don't exactly notice things that are going along without hiccup, so to speak.

Yet hiccups make us notice even our BREATHING!!!

Do we "blame" our minds for speaking in "English" (or French, Spanish, etc.) when it has been "trained" to do so since birth? NO!

Then why do we "blame" the body when it is expressing whatever it NEEDS to express in order to let us know what is going on inside!!?

This is what we SHOULD want our bodies to do ... EXPRESS even ILLNESS!!!!

I, for example, have a heavy dose of heavy metals inside my body. Soon enough my body TOLD me that something was wrong!

Once I learned that these toxins didn't seem to be coming from any CURRENT source I was exposed to, and this exposure apparently came from some point in my past, it served me no purpose whatsoever to search for a place of "blame!"

Blaming "the inside" of my body for breaking down would have been silly. Blaming "the outside" of my body because of the politics of modernization would have been a distraction!!!!

What I needed to do was to BLESS my body ... RIGHT NOW ... for its ability to draw my attention to this issue, for it needed my HELP!!!

So please, my dear students ... help others to look at any and all illnesses with NO kind of blame, shame, or failure! The body is BLESSING you with its wisdom! Let it speak! Let it TELL you where things are breaking down. But you MUST LISTEN CLOSELY!

Tools that help one to go deep enough into the wisdom of body/mind/spirit ... the place where we are ONE ... can help us all to seek instead the answers to questions such as: How does this current information helps me determine whether or not I am expressing ALL of the life my Spirit came here wanting me to Live!

Is there anything YOUR body is trying to tell YOU now ... that you have been trying so very hard NOT to hear?

Encourage ACTION with a cancer diagnosis!

by Sandy Jost, PhD9. January 2014 15:49

Most want to "DO" something when given a diagnosis of cancer yet they RARELY understand the POWER of what one CAN do ... with the MIND!

Find a person with breast cancer, for example, and you will find someone who cares about taking care of everyone else around them. So they tend to put themselves last in their list of priorities.

Yet, just as all the oxygen masks dropping from an airplane ceiling need first to be placed over a mom's own mouth BEFORE she places one over a beloved child ... so too must she find the time to CHANGE her mind and take it from its most natural state of "worrying" to a place where it is instead filled with images of "peace."

A stress free mind is the ONLY place from which an immune system can make its most healthy directives and do its best work. For you guessed it ... one's OWN healthy immune system is the MOST important defense a person has upon cancer!

Your brain is doing its best to "cope" with its fears by worrying. In fact, this seems to be the "job" of the brain to "worry," for worrying has indeed kept us "safe" when in the past the brain needed to strategize and plan for a wise escape for its body that was in danger from harm.

But once this same brain "knows" that it is facing a "foe" of cancer that now feels to be "bigger than life," it MUST STOP WORRYING and "surrender" to an even bigger "INNER KNOWING," that does indeed know what is needed in order to heal!

Guided imagery can help a person to FOCUS their somewhat stubborn mind on this place of "Inner Knowing" rather than this place of Inevitable Worry. Do not discount the importance of this action any more than today's most progressive of physicians have come to realize:

Dr. Lissa Rankin, a medical doctor and New York Times Bestselling author, is the perfect example of this understanding in that she found "the motherlode question" of her intake forms to be, quite simply ...

     - What does your body need in order to heal?

This question stimulated the most "intelligent" of answers from her patients ... answers that they "knew all along" but weren't always willing to ACT upon.

So, what answer would YOU give to that question?

... And if you honestly don't know, or wish to give your own brain some HEALTHY focus time with that place of Inner Knowing that holds sooooo much of this miraculous wisdom, please consider the ease at which a welcome guided imagery recording, when listened to regularly, can get you there: http://www.healingimages.com/Pages/Store.aspx

Metaphors are "bigger" than words!

by Sandy Jost, PhD11. January 2013 12:53

Blogs, although they often have a few stationary pictures here and there, are mainly trying to entertain the reader through the art of  words. Yet in my work, I try to constantly teach the limitation of words so that a person will learn the value of the mind using multi-dimensional imagery. This is the way a person can best change their body chemistry.

Words are three-dimensional. Bodies are multi-dimensional. Effective guided imagery also uses sound, taste, smell, and of course, touch (which includes the kinesthetic nature of emotions). And the multi-dimensional WORDS that work best are metaphors!

Why metaphors?

I think it's because the fact that we ARE multi-dimensional vs. three-dimensional beings. Oh, we can only label things, like body, mind, & spirit for example, with words. But a word is ONLY able to communicate three-dimensional aspects of something. Metaphors are able to communicate whole concepts that are likely to take a person deeper than the word itself.

Now if you possess the ability to use metaphors in your guided imagery that speak to your emotions ... well, that is the whole secret to "successful" imagery!

Whether you decide to incorporate guided imagery into your attempts to diminish the size of a cancer tumor or speed up your weight loss efforts, bodily functions are going to be affected most by metaphors that can conjure up some emotions within you. The "perfect" metaphor, then, is one that "speaks" to the depth of your soul!

Information here in this blog will hopefully help you to stretch your mind beyond the three-dimensional scope of  words and images. It is when 1 plus 1 turns out to equal 3!

So I ask that you please be patient with any and all words in this blog. Words represent a whole three-dimensional culture that we so love to be a part of ... and, in fact, the Internet you are interacting through right now actually thrives and has completely taken off because of them!

In the end though, it is all meant to encourage the DEEPER you ... and even more fun ... perhaps a brand new way of thinking!

What a surprise to discover that each brain's "pruning" process (when a child matures naturally into a teen) leads us to actually see fewer "possibilities" now as an adult!!!!

Learn how to keep your brain "evolving" ... into more than you can currently imagine!

Podcast: Is Guided Imagery Controversial?

by Sandy Jost, PhD4. January 2013 16:28

If guided imagery is so great ... why is it sometimes controversial?

Perhaps as a medical professional, or even a patient, you have seen this firsthand. Have you run into situations where others are hesitant to use or even speak of holistic or integrative techniques? How have you handled this issue to date?

Podcast: Why in the world would a person add guided imagery to their health care journey?

by Sandy Jost, PhD3. January 2013 09:37

To get DEEP into the healing journey rather than treat a health issue only on a "surface" basis, the WHOLE bodymind connection is important!!! Guided imagery can be a VERY important way to "speak" with this bodymind, whereas traditional healthcare keeps us all in "conversation only" mode with all the symptoms!

So don't leave anything on the table! This very short message can help you understand how!

Sandy Jost, PhD

Dr. Jost's career mirrors the changes within science as it has come to recognize the power of connection between body, mind, & spirit. Degrees in biology & nutritional biochemistry drew her increasingly toward mind-body interactions, where studies showed that thought could change body chemistry. So finding answers in the cutting edge of integrative sciences, Jost received a PhD in psychology & is now a noted author, speaker, & educator on the body-mind connection.
